FOR SALE: 'Stroker' Chevrolet 496ci / 8.1 ltr "Big-Block" V8 Engine

  • 1973 Chevrolet 2-Bolt ‘Hi Perf Pass’ Casting No 3999289 with 4.310” Bores (Stock 4.250” +0.060”). ARP 6-point 8740 Studs/Nuts for the Main Caps.  
  • World Products “Merlin” Cast Iron Square Port heads, Part No 30620, Casting No 1-043C. 119cc Chambers. 320cc Intake Ports, featuring +.600” Raised Exhaust Ports for enhanced flow.
  • 2.300”/1.880” Manley “Race Master” Stainless Valves. CompCams Dual Valve Springs. CompCams retainers and locks, CompCams ‘Pro Magnum’ Stainless 1.7:1 Roller Rockers and Polylocks. ARP 8740 Bolts and rocker studs.
  • Scat “9000” series Pro-Comp Lightweight Cast Steel 'Stroker' Crankshaft 4.250” Stroke, Size STD/STD. Part No 9-454-4250-6385R
  • Scat Pro Series I-Beam Forged 4340 Con Rods, 6.385” Length, 7/16 ARP Cap Screws, Bronze Bushed for Floating pins. Secured with spirolox.
  • Keith Black/UEM  ‘Hypereutectic’ +17cc Solid Dome Pistons, 1.270” Comp height. 10.0:1 Compression Ratio.
  • New UEM 1/16”, 1/16”, 3/16” Piston Rings, with ‘Moly’ Top Rings. File fitted to spec. 
  • Melling 77HV High Volume oil pump with Welded pickup, fixed with ARP 8740 Stud/Nut
  • CompCams XM296HR-12 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft. Adv Dur 296/302, 0.566”/0.566” Lift. CompCams Hyd Roller Link Bar Lifters.
  • New CompCams Hi-Energy ⅜” Push Rods
  • New CompCams ‘High-Tech’ Double Roller Race Timing Set with adj +/- 4 deg billet crank gear with rear Torrington bearing and Cloyes roller cam button.
  • Dayco Powerbond ST Performance Front crank Damper with etched timing marks and PRW SFI approved flex plate both fixed with ARP 8740 Bolts.
  • Demon 750 VS Carb, fully rebuilt by Classic Powertrain.
  • New MSD ‘Pro Billet’ Distributor with accessories, option springs etc
  • New MSD Digital 6a Ignition Box, with full loom.
  • New MSD ‘Street Fire’ HT Lead set, cut to fit with boots and terminals to suit
  • Summit Racing Aluminium Timing cover
  • New Clevite P Series Mains and Rod bearings
  • New King Cam Bearing
  • New Melling Brass freeze/core plugs and all new screwed oil plugs
  • New March Aluminium Pulleys and billet accessory brackets
  • New Edelbrock high capacity Water Pump
  • New Powermaster Ultra Torque Mini Starter
  • New Powermaster Chrome alternator
  • New Chrome GM style power steering pump
  • Block, Heads, Oil pan and Water Pump finished in Chevrolet Orange, block valley and timing chain area coated with Glyptal paint.
  • 'So Cal Speed Shop' Valve Covers in Crackle Black
  • All Fel-Pro Gaskets used


Cylinder bases clearanced as required for the long stroke.

Block was 'decked', Aux cooling passages machined to head faces to match heads and gaskets, mains tunnel was line bored/honed and cylinders power honed to size and hot tank cleaned by OCS.


Fresh build, 0 miles, all work carried out by Steve Kenney at Classic Powertrain using best engineering practices and heads and short block were blueprinted to published specs.  


Also have headers available,  Never Used pair of 'Dougs' D-313 Ceramic Coated to suit 67-74 Camaro (and others I believe) with 1 3/4" primaries and 3.0" Collectors. Price by separate negotiation.
